A National Historic Landmark since 1971, the Mansion is regarded as one of the
earliest and finest surviving examples of French Renaissance Revival
architecture in the United States. Completed in 1868 for financier LeGrand
Lockwood and his wife Ann Louisa, the 62-room granite summer house was the work
of architect Detlef Lienau, and contains beautifully inlaid carved and painted
interiors.
Today the Museum sponsors programs and events for families and enthusiasts of
the Victorian era. It extends the use of the facility to member corporations,
businesses and non-profit organizations.
